Giving back: spotlight on Share the Dignity

02 December 2020

At Hinkler, we aim to create things that bring joy and delight. No matter how big or small the product, we hope that it brings a little bit of enjoyment to someone’s day.

But we know that our work would be impossible without the support of our community: our customers, retailers, suppliers, contributors, team members and more. And so we want to give back.

Each quarter, we’ll shine a spotlight on a group that we believe is doing important work in the community.

By supporting other organisations who are committed to enriching the lives of people around them, we hope to foster a global network of kindness and solidarity.

Introducing the first organisation in the spotlight: Share the Dignity.

Share the Dignity is a national charity working to end period poverty in Australia. Their mission is to ensure that all women have unrestricted access to sanitary items, thereby giving them the dignity they deserve.

Each November, they run a campaign called It’s In The Bag that collects pre-loved bags full of essential items to give to women living in crisis. The delivery is made just in time for the festive season, a time of year that is particularly difficult for those facing hardship.

The campaign is only a few years old but is responsible for the donation of more than 500,000 bags. The bags contain essentials like sanitary items, toothpaste and deodorant, but can also include more luxury items like perfume, skincare or beanies.

This month, a few wonderful team members at Hinkler coordinated an effort to contribute to the It’s In The Bag campaign. 2020 has been a challenging year for many of us, and we wanted to make a difference this Christmas for those who are doing it particularly tough.

Our aim was to prepare ten completed bags – but, thanks to the generosity of our team members, we’ve doubled that! We hope that these twenty bags will help to bring some security and happiness to women living in crisis.

The It’s In The Bag campaign ran from 20 November until 29 November, but even though the campaign is officially over, there are still ways to contribute. If you’d like to donate or want to learn more, you can find more information here.
