Seven tips for daily joy

Adding joy to your life doesn’t have to be time-consuming.

Tiny pleasures can soothe stress by releasing feel-good chemicals like dopamine in the brain. And when you stack multiple small pleasures throughout the day, they can add up to a happier you!

Here are some top tips to help you find some daily joy.


1. Have a good belly laugh

Who or what really makes you laugh? Ring an old friend, look up old comedy skits or cat videos on YouTube. Laugh at whatever you find amusing or ridiculous … the sillier, the better!


2. You are the special occasion

Wear the beautiful dress. Put on the bright red lipstick. Dress up just for you. There is no need to wait for a big event to make your everyday occasion a special one! Of course, if you’re not a lipstick, dress and lipstick kind of person, wear what makes YOU feel great!



3. Tune out

Switch off the news cycle and churn of social media for a whole day (or even just an afternoon). The world will keep on turning without you tuning in! Hit DO NOT DISTURB on your phone. If there’s someone who will pester you with repeat ringing, give them the heads up that you’re offline for a while.


4. Bask in the sun

Think like a cat and take a moment to stretch out in the sun (while still being sun smart). Close your eyes and really feel the warmth of the sun on your face, back or limbs. Recharge from those lifegiving rays!


5. Choose a new path

Tired of the well-worn walk around your neighbourhood? Move two streets along! Try walking that walk in reverse! Take a different path. Really look at and notice your surroundings.



6. Declutter

Not many of us associate cleaning with joy but decluttering is so rewarding. Clean up that pile of stuff in a corner and you’ll be amazed at how good you feel. Physically freeing up space makes things feel more balanced and harmonious. Plus, it will give you a new appreciation for the space!


7. You do you

What is it you really like to do? Bake cakes? Watch 80s movies? Gaze at the stars? Play with your pet? Forget the endless Insta-scroll, put down your phone, and take time to enjoy doing what YOU enjoy doing.
