We Get Down to the Knitty Gritty of Yarn Day
I Love Yarn Day occurs in October and celebrates all things yarn! It is a time to spread the love of yarn and share a yarn-related activity with someone new.
The Craft Yarn Council founded I Love Yarn Day in 2011 to spread the love of yarn crafts for generations to enjoy. The Craft Yarn Council is a non-profit comprised of leading yarn companies, manufacturers, publishers and consultants in the yarn industry.
Time to Unwind
There are many benefits to yarn crafts like knitting and crochet, not just the creative fulfillment from the awesome craft project that you complete! An article in the New York Times shows that the ‘repetitive action of needlework can induce a relaxed state like that associated with meditation and yoga’. Once you get hooked, this craft activity can even lower your heart rate and blood pressure! It is also thought that crafts like knitting can help stave off the decline in brain function with age as it helps create and strengthen neural pathways in the brain.
As we are culturally drawn more and more to screens, a creative task like knitting or crochet is a wonderful alternative to sitting in front of the TV or staring at your phone. It keeps your hands busy and allows your brain some time to reflect on your day. You may find that you come up with solutions to problems or new creative ideas while you are undertaking this crafting project!
